Frequently Asked Questions

What time does the site open and close?

The Birstall and Enderby sites open at 06.45 in preparation for the first departure (07.00) and close after the passengers on the last bus arriving at the site (19.20) have left; normally around 20.15. Meynell’s Gorse opens at 06.15 and closes at 20.00.

Can I drop someone off at the site?

Dropping off at Birstall or Enderby is not available as a validated ticket will be needed to exit the car park through the barriers. You can however, arrive on foot or by bicycle.

Can you explain the Group Ticket?

The Group Day Ticket is available after 09.00 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday for a group of up to 5 people travelling together on both journeys.

Can you explain the Child Fares?

Children under 5 travel for free; children aged 5 or over can travel as part of the Group Day ticket after 09.00 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday. If children aged 5 or over would like to travel before 09.00 Monday to Friday they would need to purchase a Day Ticket.

How long does a Ten Trip Ticket last for?

The Ten Trip Ticket allows 10 Day Tickets within a 2 month time span.

Do the bus drivers have change?

Drivers will always give change where they can, however it is not practical for them to carry large quantities of change and this will be more of a problem on initial early morning journeys. Passengers are asked to have the correct fare wherever possible. If passengers do not have the correct fare, it will make boarding times slower and the bus may not be able to leave on time as a result.

Please note that it is cash only for all fares payable on the bus – payment cannot be made by card or cheque.

Can I park at Enderby and use the service to get to Grove Park?

Due to the need for the exit barrier ticket it is not possible to park at the Enderby site and walk to Grove Park. This system is in place as a result of the planning conditions for the site. The service will only collect passengers at Grove Park to take them back to the city centre or Birstall Park & Ride.

Are there any time constraints to Concessionary Travel?

Older people with a valid concessionary travel pass can travel after 09.30 Monday to Friday and all day Saturday for free. From 1st April 2011, if you have an Older Persons’ Pass issued by Leicester City Council and start your journey at either Meynell’s Gorse or the city centre, you can travel before 09.30 Monday to Friday at half fare. If you have an Older Persons’ Pass issued by Leicestershire County Council or any other authority, or you are starting your journey at Birstall or Enderby and travel before 09.30 Monday to Friday you will need to purchase a Day Ticket costing £3.00. Disabled people with a current concessionary travel pass can travel for free without any time restriction.

Group tickets are for 5 people travelling together, what if I have a full 7 seater vehicle?

Group Tickets are for up to five people travelling together; two Group Tickets should be purchased if more than five people arrive in one car unless other concessions apply.

What if I meet my friends at the Park & Ride site and we all travel into town together, can we get a Group Ticket?

Group tickets are for up to five people arriving together in one vehicle. The Group Ticket allows one vehicle to exit the car park.

Do the Park & Ride services operate on Bank/Public Holidays?

The Park & Ride services do not operate on Bank/Public Holidays, any change to operations will be shown on www.quicksilverbus.co.uk or on bus.

Is there a height restriction at the entrance to the sites?

Height barriers are present at all entrance/exit points. The clearance is 2.05m (6’ 8”) at Birstall and Enderby, 2.1m (6’ 10”) at Meynell’s Gorse.

Can I use my wheelchair on the low floor buses?

Whether a particular type of wheelchair can be accommodated mainly depends on its size and manoeuvrability, you should check with the operator before travelling.

What happens if I lose my ticket?

A vending machine is situated near the site office to print out bar-coded exit barrier tickets to car park users who have lost their ticket.

The lost ticket charge is £10 including VAT. The machine accepts cash and card payments.

Can I take my bicycle or large bulky items on the bus?  Are there any other restrictions?

Generally you will not be allowed to take bicycles or bulky items on the service. The bus company needs to ensure the safety and comfort of their passengers. Because of this and due to limited space many operators have specific policies on what they agree to carry; this applies to commercial and contract services.

The operator can also refuse travel for passengers who wish to carry liquids in unsecured and unsealed containers. If the passenger was to accidentally drop the item and it burst open, it may spill all over the bus and potentially other passengers. Such items may be allowed on the bus at the discretion of the driver if they are contained in a sealed bag.

It is always best to check with the operator before travelling.

Can I take my dog/pet on the bus?

Disabled people are allowed to travel with their guide, assistance or hearing dog. The passenger must comply with any instructions given by the driver. The carrying of other dogs is at the discretion of the driver. Please contact the operator for further details.

What should I do if I think I have left something on one of the Park & Ride services?

Get in touch with the operator by calling 01530 817 444.

Where has the City Loop gone?

The service from Enderby will no longer serve Pocklington’s Walk, Horsefair Street, Welford Road, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Oxford Street as it now links through to Birstall via the city centre. This new linked Enderby/Birstall service provides the best option in terms of service frequency when balanced against limited resources and low passenger use on the City Loop.

What about the County Hall Saturday service?

The last day of County Hall Saturday service was 30th July 2011. Passengers can use either Birstall, Enderby or Meynell’s Gorse Park & Ride services as an alternative.

What are the operator’s contact details?

Get in touch with the operator by calling 01530 817 444.
